It was a high counsel that I once heard given to a young person, “Always do what you are afraid to do.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Do you want to live your dream life?
Do you know what that dream life is?
How bad do WANT it?
Are you willing to work HARD for it?
Do you have the GUTS to change your life completely?
Could you?
- Leave behind everything you know and head toward the unknown?
- Quit the job with the steady paycheck and all the comforts it gives you?
- Downsize your home, your car, your possessions?
- Stop buying stuff, stop eating out, start cooking all your meals to save money?
- Exchange the safety and comfort of your daily routine, for uncertainty and no road-map?
Do I have your attention? Good…because building your dream life is not for the faint of heart. It’s damn hard……it’s uncertain….it’s scary…..it’s lonely….
It’s awesome…..exhilarating….intoxicating…..empowering….deeply rewarding.
Living your dream life isn’t easy….but is anything worth doing ever easy? There is a TON of value in the struggle. You have to fall a few times, and learn from your mistakes.
Don’t Believe Me?
Let me ask you something, When have you learned your most valuable life lessons? Was it when everything went as expected, and you got what you wanted? Or was it when all didn’t go according to plan….and you faced challenges you had to overcome?
I don’t know about you, but I learn more when I stumble, or fall, then when everything goes smoothly. When something is hard, I learn:
- What I’m capable of
- How much I really want it
- What I’m willing to do to succeed
- Whether or not I want to try again
- Things I didn’t know
- Things I need to learn
- Things I can do better next time
Is This All There Is?
I woke up one day, several years ago and realized I wasn’t happy in my marriage. So I did everything I could to fix it. When that didn’t work…I walked away from that life. I wanted something different. At the time, I wasn’t sure what it was….but I knew what it wasn’t.
I discovered Minimalism and embraced it with a passion. I decluttered, reduced expenses, and gave up things in the here and now, in return for living a life of my own design. In living simply, I found that I was living with more INTENT and PURPOSE.
When I removed all the clutter, stress, and noise from my life, I started listening….really listening to my thoughts. I went for long walks and just let my mind wander. I used Yoga to build silence…..silence that I needed to think clearly.
I started this blog, and discovered an incredible community of like-minded people. People who want to live epic lives, make a difference, help others…and leave a lasting legacy.
If you want to know who some of those people are, read this.
I learned a lot about myself in the process…I learned that I can do anything. I always wanted to write….but I didn’t think I’d be good at it. I’m still not good….but I know that the more you do something, the better you get. So I will keep writing….and improving.
There is no blueprint for living your dream life. Each of us is different, and what works for one person, won’t necessarily work for another.
How Do You Begin?
Step 1: is admitting you aren’t happy with the way your life is going. You may not know why…you just know something is missing.
Step 2: is deciding whether you have the courage to make a change.
Step 3: is to start imagining your dream life in vivid detail. Woohoo this is so much fun…..TRUST ME ON THIS ONE!!
Ask yourself a few questions:
- What do I want to do with my life?
- What makes me happy?
- What am I good at?
- What gets me excited and makes my heart race?
- What does my “perfect day” look like?
- What are my interests or passions?
- Could I make a living from my interests or passions?
- How hard will I work for it?
- How will I start?
- What am I willing to do or and/or give up to get what I want?
- How long will I stick with it, if it doesn’t happen overnight?
This is important…it matters…..THIS IS YOUR LIFE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. So take the time to really think about your answers to these questions.
Step 4: Devise a plan to achieve that dream life.
Step 5: Don’t wait until the plan is perfect and fail-proof….that is SO NOT HAPPENING. Take the leap….get started….and adjust as you go.
